How We Make a Difference
Support the Resident and Student Education Initiative

Resident and Student Education Initiative

We are offering scholarships to Maryland Family Medicine Residents and Students for educational events and workshops at both MDAFP and AAFP events.

Our objective is for students to develop a greater awareness and appreciation for the specialty of Family Medicine, as well as increase resident's and student's knowledge in the topics presented. Topics offered include public health, social determinants of health, family medicine advocacy, leadership, and well-being.

This initiative's goal is to send a select number of Family Medicine Residents and Medical students to the following events:

Meet Peter Kim – AMWR Scholarship Recipient

Q: How did attending the 2025 Annual Meeting and Winter Refresher align with your career goals in Family Medicine? Was there a moment during the conference that had a significant impact on your perspective as a medical student or on your future career path?

A: "Attending the AMWR conference was truly eye opening for me as a medical student with goals to enter Family Medicine. The educational and multidisciplinary lectures, the induction of new MDAFP president, and award ceremony were all impressive and foreshadowing for me the future that I could have as a family medicine physician. One of the most memorable moments from the conference was when Dr. Reavis was presented with an award for her contributions to the Family Medicine practice in Maryland. It was during the presentation of award when everyone that has been taught or impacted by Dr. Reavis to stand, that I was able to see just the unity and impact that a family medicine physician could have in and out of the office clinic. It was inspiring!"

Q: Would you recommend other students to apply for a scholarship to attend the AMWR? Why?

"I would most definitely recommend attending AMWR because it was a great networking event where I could ask all the questions that I wanted about the specialty without the stress of expectations that are often experienced during graded clinical experiences. It was also great to just envision how I could remain connected to advocacy, leadership, and mentoring as an attending after residency."
