2027 MDAFP Board Nominations

Nominations for MDAFP's Board are Open!

Let Your Leadership Skills Shine!

Nominations for Board of Directors positions for 2027 are open! Are you interested in joining the MDAFP or Board of Directors? Do you know any Academy member who would make a great addition to the MDAFP Board? Do the descriptions below sound like you or someone you know? 

If the answer is YES, then we want to hear from you! The deadline to submit your nominations is Wednesday, October 7.

If you’re nominating a colleague, email your nomination by including the nominee’s name and email, the position you’re nominating the individual for, and a brief statement of recommendation. If you’re submitting a self-nomination, complete the application

Nominees will need to provide some background information, a current statement of interest, along with a current CV. If you believe a colleague would be a great fit and would like to nominate them, provide us with a statement of support with the nominee's contact information, including email and phone.

  • 4 Directors
  • 2 AAFP Delegates
  • 1 Alternate AAFP Delegate
MDAFP Board Member Desired Qualities

MDAFP values and seeks diverse leadership and leaders from all practice types and sizes. The leadership has identified several desired attributes that will be part of the selection process for new board members:

  • The ability to think strategically and analytically and to be effectively communicate thoughts and the reasons for them.
  • The ability to be open, listen, hear, and value all perspectives.
  • Possession of earned respect of other key stakeholder group members.
  • The ability to work well with others as a member of a collaborative group with group decision-making authority and an understanding of the fiduciary duties of loyalty, care, and obedience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the difference between “oversight” and “supervision”.
  • Earned reputation for emotional maturity, personal integrity, and honesty.
  • A demonstrated familiarity with the body of knowledge related to both the process for which the group is responsible as well as the substantive content of the subject area within which decisions and choices will have to be made.

Candidates will be vetted for a balanced board with these three considerations:

  1. Board Member Skill Sets – Key attributes
  2. Special Skills or Expertise germane to MDAFP’s Strategic Initiatives
  3. Representation of the diversity of our membership (generational, geographic, gender, ethnic and more)
Board Member Responsibilities

Below are the following duties/responsibilities of an MDAFP board member: 

  • Participate in: 
    • Board discussions
    • Declaring conflicts of interest
  • Focus on:
    • Determining where the MDAFP needs to go and how we measure our progress (strategic direction)
    • Outcomes and results – do not manage operations
    • Big picture, not committee work
  • Attend & Assist:
    • Assigned leadership conferences
    • Board meetings and others as needed
    • Identifying leaders
  • Timeliness & Preparedness to:
    • Read emails and reply in a timely fashion
    • Read board packet before meeting
Board Member Terms


  • President-Elect: 1 year term
  • Vice President: 1 year term
  • Treasurer: 1 year term, eligible for multiple terms
  • Directors: 3 year term, eligible for up to 2 terms
  • AAFP Delegate: 2 year term, eligible for up to 3 terms
  • AAFP Alternate Delegate: 2 year term, eligible for up to 3 terms


Board Meetings
  • New term begins at installation in February at the Annual Business Meeting
  • Board meets in person 3 times a year, with one strategic planning session held alongside a board meeting
  • Members are expected to attend all meetings, read materials in advance, and participate in discussion
  • Members respond to electronic board communication (emails, surveys) between meetings
Nominations

Nominations are vetted by the MDAFP Nominating Committee, then presented to the Board of Directors for approval. The final slate will be brought to the assembly of members at the Annual Business Meeting on Saturday, February 27.
