MDAFP's Family Medicine Mentorship Program

Family Medicine Mentorship Program

Building Maryland's Family Medicine Community, One Connection at a Time

About the Program: The Maryland Academy of Family Physicians (MDAFP) has launched a new Family Medicine Mentorship Program designed to connect experienced family physicians with early-career doctors. This initiative creates meaningful relationships that strengthen our professional community while supporting the next generation of family medicine physicians.

Why This Program Matters

For Mentees (Early-Career Physicians):

Starting out in family medicine can feel overwhelming. Our mentorship program provides you with:

  • Personalized guidance from someone who's been where you are
  • A safe space to discuss work-life balance challenges
  • Connections with physicians who understand the unique pressures of family medicine
  • Flexible communication that works with your demanding schedule
  • Validation that you're exactly where you're supposed to be
  • Strategies that textbooks don't teach

You don't have to navigate your career alone. Our mentors genuinely want to help because they remember what it was like early in their careers.

For Mentors (Experienced Physicians):

Your years of experience have given you insights that can make a lasting impact. Mentoring offers you:

  • Fresh perspectives from the next generation
  • Enhanced leadership and communication skills
  • Professional connections that strengthen the community
  • An opportunity to share your legacy
  • Staying connected to family medicine (whether practicing full-time, part-time, or retired)

Those everyday moments when you help a colleague, offer perspective, or listen to their challenges? That's mentoring. And you have what it takes.
