The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is holding two public meetings this summer to gather feedback on the state regulations governing clean claims and your voice as a family physician matters.
A "clean claim" is a health insurance claim that contains all the information an insurer needs to process and reimburse a provider without requesting additional documentation. When clean claim standards are clear and workable, your practice gets paid faster and with less administrative back-and-forth.
Maryland's current clean claims regulations are found in COMAR 31.10.11 and govern what information must be included on claims, what attachments are permissible, when insurers can request additional information, and how claims data is reported to the MIA.
The MIA is reviewing whether these regulations are meeting the needs of providers, insurers, and patients — and is inviting stakeholders to weigh in before any changes are proposed.

This session will open with an MIA presentation on the existing rules, followed by open discussion. The MIA is specifically seeking input on whether the current requirements for claim attachments and requests for additional information are working well in practice.
