MINUTES


Call to Order
President Joseph P. Connelly, M.D., announcing that upon notice being given, called the meeting to order at 6:00pm


Trustees and Officers Present: Charles P. Adamo, M.D., Esther Rae Barr, CAE, Joyce Evans, M.D., A. Clark Holmes, M.D., Andrew McGlone, M.D., Carl Zambon (BMS)

Trustees and Officers Absent: Kevin S. Ferentz, M.D., Dean H. Griffin, M.D., William P. Jones, M.D., Sara Martin (Boehringer Ingelheim), Abdul Nayeem, M.D., Scott Parker (Pfizer), Joan Shisler (Schering Plough)

Staff Present: Barr, Bogash

Guests: Courtney Ford

Approval of Minutes, Board of Directors Meeting 2/9/05
Upon proper motion, second and vote, the minutes were approved as presented.

Treasurer’s Report
Dr. Connelly presented the following (on file):
 

  • Fiscal ytd profit/loss, balance sheet and budget vs. actual statements.

  • J&J Report

  • State Registration Letter

  1. Discussion points:

    1. Mrs. Barr, reporting that several of the pharmaceutical companies now have processes in place to accept charitable grant requests, stated that staff will pursue such grants (for Tar War, mentoring program, etc.)

    2. Mrs. Barr reported a recent generous contribution from Mrs. Elaine McKay in memory of her late husband, a MAFP past president, Dr. J. Nelson McKay. It was suggested that she be offered the opportunity to create a perpetual MAFP lectureship through MAFP/F in her husband’s name. Addendum: A letter dated 5/13/05 was mailed to Mrs. McKay.

Executive Director’s Report
Mrs. Barr reported/presented the following:
 

  1. Tar Wars Program (Bogash)

    1. Ms. Bogash discussed the 2004-05 program and presented the posters submitted to date. An informal judging took place. She announced the focus for the upcoming year being more narrow in an attempt to grow the program in 1-2 counties, in addition to Baltimore City and County.

    2. A meeting scheduled for May between Drs. Adamo, Ferentz, Ms. Bogash and Mrs. Barr with Dr. Claudia Baquet (UM Associate Dean) was cancelled by Dr. Baquet. Dr. Adamo expressed interest in writing to her a follow up letter.

    3. Ms. Bogash will attend the AAFP Annual Tar Wars Coordinators conference and National Poster Contest in July in Alexandria, VA.

  2. MAFP/F Annual Meeting – June 24, Annapolis - Agenda reviewed.

  3. AAFP/F Network Update -- All materials to date on file. It is anticipated that the AAFP Foundation board will approve the Task Force recommendations with all new formats in place and taking effect on 1/1/06. Any changes to MAFP/F operation remains pending. Dr. Connelly, Ms. Martin and Mrs. Barr will review MAFP/F bylaws for suggested changes by the next meeting..

  4. Programs Update

    1. There was agreement to support a resident’s registration to the upcoming AAFP Conference on Patient Education in November

    2. One student from each medical school has been identified to receive AAFP funding for Summer FP clinical experiences.

Old Business

  1. Reiteration that the Foundations 2006 Ravens Football season tickets will be sold (a pair prior to each game) on E-Bay.

  2. The MAFP board will consider, at its 6/5/05 meeting, the MAFP/F’s request that a portion of an anticipated dues increase be earmarked for the MAFP/F ($10 requested)

New Business

CTFK Ceremony (Adamo) – Dr. Adamo represented AAFP at the Center for Tobacco Free Kids annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC on 5/10/05. After discussion where Dr. Adamo revealed the financial and political resources of CTFK, it was determined that Ms. Bogash will explore ways to possibly establish a working relationship between the organization and MAFP/F. She will include this aspect in her report at the next meeting.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:30pm. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday evening, August 31, 2005 from 6:30-7:30pm at the MAFP/F office.
