Mr. Eric Gally, President of Gally Public Affairs, is the Lobbyist (State Governmental Consultant) for the Maryland Academy of Family Physicians and has represented MAFP in Annapolis for three years. He has assisted MAFP leadership in identifying key issues, establishing a presence during the legislative session and informing legislators about family practice. He keeps members updated through legislative alerts and regular articles in The Maryland Family Doctor.
Mr. Gally’s message to MAFP:
Since arriving in Maryland in 1992, I have served as a lobbyist on public health issues before the General Assembly. From 1992-96 I served a government relations director for the American Cancer Society. After a brief stint with a national organization, I opened my own lobbying practice in 1997. Since the I have helped enact a series of groundbreaking laws for clients such as the Cancer Society, American Heart Association and Marylanders Against Handgun Abuse.
My relationships with the Governor’s staff, the Attorney General and with leadership in the General Assembly has made me an integral part of successful campaigns to raise the state cigarette tax, allocate tobacco settlement money for cancer control and tobacco use prevention. I’ve also taken the lead on a number of patient access and insurance mandate issues over the years.
I am a hard-working, hands-on advocate for my clients and causes. MAFP is part of a small and valued family of clients that receives personal attention and vigorous advocacy before the General Assembly.
