Esther Rae Barr, CAE
Executive Director
The executive director, working directly under the board of directors, is MAFP’s administrative manager. The executive director provides all critical management and growth functions in areas including financial management; membership development; convention, meeting and trade show management; personnel management; MIS management; publications, marketing and communications and special projects management. The executive director works in close collaboration with MAFP’s leadership and works to implement the governing body’s policies, goals and objectives. The executive director serves as managing editor for the Maryland Family Doctor and is the executive director and secretary of the MAFP Foundation.
This year, Esther marked her 25th year of service to MAFP. She is certified in association management through the American Society of Association Executives. She
staffs the Maryland Primary Care Coalition and serves on the Maryland
Council for Cancer Control. During her career with MAFP, she has frequently written articles and presented topics on association management.
Esther, a Baltimore native and graduate of the University of Maryland,
lives in close proximity to the MAFP office with her husband Mike.
Together they are the parents of Nancy Beth Grossman, M.D. (a family
physician) son Kurt M. Barr and the grandparents of Madeline (deceased).
Phaedra T.
Ellis-Goods
The Maryland Academy of
Family Physicians would like to introduce staff member Phaedra
Ellis-Goods. Phaedra will be occupies the position of our Member
and Meeting Services Manager. Phaedra who likes to be called Phay (pronounced
Faye) brings to us over 15 years of administrative and coordinating
experience in various healthcare industries. She also brings to us over
5 years of non-profit experience working with organizations such as the Chron's and Colitis Foundation and Huntington’s Disease Society of
America. With those organizations she grew from Administrative
Assistant to Development Coordinator, to Acting Executive Director where
she organized fundraising events and also put together various workshops
and seminars.
Born and raised in
Maryland, Phay currently resides in the Pikesville area. Her hobbies
include traveling, being active in her church, singing, spending time
with friends and family, and just making the best out of life.
Phay comes from a long line of singers and musicians in her family and
has sung and traveled with numerous choirs and groups around the City of
Baltimore as well as traveled to France and Spain singing gospel. In September 2007,
Phay married the love of life and friend Jermaine
Goods, Sr. She has one daughter, Tinera (26) a
Morgan State University graduate. Through her union
she has also become the step-mom of Jermaine Goods, Jr. (14)
and Morgan Goods (12).
