MINUTES
Call to Order
President Joseph P. Connelly, M.D., announcing that upon notice being given, called the meeting to order at 6:00pm
Trustees and Officers Present: Charles P. Adamo, M.D., Esther Rae Barr, CAE, Joyce Evans, M.D., Kevin S. Ferentz, M.D., William P. Jones, M.D., Carl Zambon (BMS)

Approval of Minutes, Board of Directors Meeting 5/11/05
Upon proper motion, second and vote, the minutes were approved as presented.
Treasurer’s Report
Dr. Ferentz presented the following (on file):

Fiscal ytd profit/loss, balance sheet and budget vs. actual statements.

Dr. Ferentz remarked concern that assets are diminishing.

Mrs. Barr, reported: 1) grant requests to BMS and Lilly for charitable contributions for Tar Wars were declined, 2) MAFP board approval that beginning with first chapter dues payments for 2006, $5 per Active/Supporting member dues be donated to the foundation. This process will occur on an indefinite basis, 3) allotments from the AAFP Foundation will cease after 4Q 2005.

Executive Director’s Report
Mrs. Barr reported/presented the following:

Review of Foundation Activities at the 2005 MAFP Assembly: Similar activities, Tar Wars Ceremony

Tar Wars Program (Jacobs)

Summarized the 2004-05 program, presenting a work plan (on file) for the 2005-06 program.

Summarized the 2005 TW Coordinators Workshop held in conjunction with AAFP’s TW Poster Contest. Possible ideas for implementation include:

Printed brochure and business cards (in progress)

PR for posters eg. displays in malls, hospitals, etc.

Presentations at other gatherings of 5th graders eg. cub scouts meetings

Targeted mailing to schools in various MD counties in mid-October

Recruitment of past and future presenters; contact with UM medical students

Discussion points:

try to get media coverage

various methods for fundraising eg. Cal Ripkin Foundation, hospitals, etc.

arrange meeting with UM key personnel for PR, fund raising, residency requirements, etc.

Dr Adamo is acquiring the names of med students who volunteered to present Tar Wars in regional elementary schools. A letter will be sent to the dean of U of M (acting?) to gain recognition for Family Practice initiatives at the University.

Ravens Tickets: Dr. Sachdev’s coordination of the sale of Ravens Season Tickets on E-Bay was aborted due to the Foundation’s not being a registered user. He did manage, however, to sell the tickets for a modest surplus. Discussion resulted in agreement that Dr. Connelly will coordinate the sale of the 2006 season tickets.

Programs Update: Mrs. Barr stated her understanding that the major foundation programs are Tar Wars, medical student and resident initiatives. There was a short discussion about possible future research initiatives.

AAFP/F Network Update: Call for Nominees for AAFP/F Board of Trustees – None.

Fall edition The Maryland Family Doctor: upcoming edition will include an extensive foundation section highlighting the organization’s activities to benefit students.
Old Business
Review of MAFP/F Structure/Bylaws – Possible changes: Mrs. Barr will review the document, noting any suggested changes prior to next meeting.
New Business
Mrs. Barr and Mrs. Jacobs will begin a revision of the foundation’s promotional brochure and will present a draft at the next meeting.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:30pm. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday evening, November 30, 2005 from 6:30-7:30pm at the MAFP/F office.
